Unfortunately I did not buy mine from Pear Tree Company but I the version I have actually has an 18kt gold nib. The pen is somewhat heavy but not as heavy as one might think. I find it to be a fantastic writer and the nib has quite a bit of spring to it. One thing about Lamy is that regardless if it is a gold or steel nib, the nib will be as smooth as silk. Lamy makes some of the best nibs and writers, right off the shelf. About 75% + of all the pens I buy require some tweaking, I have yet had to tweak any of my Lamy nibs. The Clip on the Persona is super cool and remains hidden until you want to use it. The cap screws off and snaps on the rear, if that is what you like. Again, mine has an 18kt gold nib while this one here has the 14kt gold. I think the 14kt gold would is a better choice than an 18kt gold nib. Great pen and I thought that they discontinued making it, I guess I was wrong!!! IF you want a high class Lamy, this is it, I love mine!!!!
